Kettlebell Core Workout
The most useful thing a kettlebell does for your midsection is make you resist something. Carried on one side it tries to bend you sideways, held in front it tries to pull you forward, and refusing both is precisely what the core is for.
- 1
Kettlebell Suitcase Carry
3 × 30–60sCore · also Forearms, Traps
- Pick the bell up in one hand and stand perfectly upright.
- Walk slowly, refusing to lean toward or away from the weight.
- Keep the shoulders level — the loaded side will try to hitch upward.
- Stop the set the moment you start to lean. That point is the exercise.
- 2
Kettlebell Windmill
3 × 6–10Core · also Shoulders, Hamstrings
- Press the bell overhead and keep your eyes on it the whole time.
- Push the loaded-side hip out and bend sideways toward the opposite foot.
- Keep the overhead arm locked and vertical; the movement happens at the hip.
- Start with no weight at all until the movement feels controlled.
- 3
Kettlebell Overhead Carry
3 × 20–45sCore · also Shoulders, Traps
- Press the bell overhead and lock the elbow completely straight.
- Walk slowly with the ribs pulled down and the bell stacked over the shoulder.
- Keep the wrist neutral — a bent wrist is the first thing to fail here.
- Start lighter than you expect; overhead is far less forgiving than a suitcase carry.
- 4
Fingertip Push-Up
3 × 6–12Forearms · also Chest, Triceps
- Set up as a normal push-up but support yourself on spread fingertips.
- Keep the fingers strong and slightly bent — never let them collapse.
- Start on the knees if this is new. Grip strength builds slowly.
- 5
Plank
3 × 30–60sCore · also Shoulders
- Elbows under the shoulders, forearms flat, body in one straight line.
- Squeeze the glutes and tuck the ribs down so the lower back stays neutral.
- Breathe normally. If the hips sag or rise, end the set.
Getting the most out of it
Loaded carries are the most undertrained movement in home gyms and among the most useful. Walk with a heavy bell in one hand, stay perfectly upright, and stop the set when you start to lean. That last part is the exercise.
